A WIN on Capitol Hill for HHT!
You may recall that back in November 2020, Cure HHT reached out for help to urge the Senate to correct an oversight related to the Department of Defense’s (DoD) Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program (PRMRP) and add “vascular malformations” back among the conditions eligible for study – a designation that has advanced HHT research since 2015.
Our community responded in an unprecedented way, and with over 400 signatures on our petition to Congress along with countless emails to senators across the U.S., we are ecstatic to report that WE DID IT! The Senate Committee on Appropriations voted to include “vascular malformations” in the final version of the fiscal year 2021 Defense Appropriations Act!
As a result of our advocacy to secure “vascular malformations” as an eligible disorder for the PRMRP since 2015, several grants were awarded in this area, totaling approximately $20.8 million between fiscals year 2016 and 2020.
Your voices were heard, and coupled with the support of the following senators we accomplished an almost impossible feat. A special thank you to our senators:
Richard Blumenthal (D-CT)
Roy Blunt (R-MO)
Sherrod Brown (D-OH)
Chris Coons (D-DE)
Richard Durbin (D-IL)
Diane Feinstein (D-CA)
Rob Portman (R-OH)
Mitt Romney (R-UT)
