Nosebleed Severity Score (ESS)

The Epistaxis Severity Score (ESS) is a way to monitor the severity of an HHT patient's nosebleeds and their response to treatment. This is a simple score that is calculated automatically when you answer six simple questions.

The purpose of this ONLINE TOOL is to calculate the severity score of epistaxis for patients with HHT. Treatment for epistaxis should be determined by a care provider with experience in treating patients with HHT and this calculation should serve as an adjunct to clinical evaluation. A patient's ESS can help  doctors evaluate the most effective treatment for HHT-related nosebleeds.

Dr. Hoag conducted this research through an HHT Foundation grant award and presented an abstract outlining the results of his study at the 8th HHT International Scientific Conference.

2015 abstract published in Laryngoscope entitled, "The minimal important difference of the epistaxis severity score in Hereditary hemorrhagic Telangiectasia".
